How to Choose a Recliner for Your Living Room

October 2026 · 4 min read · By the team at Price Furniture, Belagavi

A recliner often becomes the most used seat in the house, the one claimed every evening for television, a cricket match or a short nap. Choosing well means looking beyond the upright chair in the showroom: how much room it needs when reclined, who will use it, and how its upholstery copes with Belagavi's monsoon.

This guide explains what to check, using the four recliners listed on our website, priced from ₹22,000 to ₹70,000.

In this guide
  1. Start with who will use it
  2. Our recliners at a glance
  3. Measure for the reclined position
  4. How the recline works
  5. Leatherette or fabric for Belagavi's climate
  6. One recliner, a set or a home theatre
  7. Delivery and placement

Start with who will use it

  • One person, every evening: a single recliner placed beside the main sofa
  • The whole family: a set in which several seats recline
  • A dedicated home theatre: cinema-style seating with cup holders
  • Elderly parents: a firm seat at a comfortable height, solid arms to push up from, and a recline control within easy reach

Try the recliner with the person who will use it most. Their calves should be supported by the footrest, and the headrest should meet the head without pushing it forward.

Our recliners at a glance

Grandview Recliner SetThree-seater with two reclining armchairsBrown fabric₹70,000

Measure for the reclined position

A recliner needs more room than its upright size suggests: the back tilts towards the wall behind, and the footrest extends into the room.

  • In our showroom, measure the recliner fully reclined, from the back of the headrest to the end of the footrest
  • At home, compare that length with the space between the wall and the centre table or television
  • Leave a walkway in front of the extended footrest, especially in a compact hall where it may cross the path to the balcony or kitchen

How the recline works

  • Side control: the Havenstone and the reclining armchairs of the Grandview set have a recline control on the outer side of the arm.
  • Lean back: on the Nordica, the footrest rises as you lean back, with no control on the side.

A side control suits anyone who prefers to recline without pushing back, which some people find easier. A lean-back recliner keeps a cleaner outline. We recommend trying both in our showroom before you decide.

Leatherette or fabric for Belagavi's climate

Leatherette, as on the Nordica and the Crimson, wipes clean with a damp cloth and stands up to monsoon humidity better than fabric, which can develop a musty smell. On April and May afternoons it can feel warm, so keep it out of direct sun and avoid oil-based cleaners.

Fabric, such as the brown plush of the Havenstone and the brown fabric of the Grandview, is soft and warm on cool monsoon evenings and forgiving of everyday marks. Vacuum it with a brush attachment, keep it a few inches from damp outer walls, and blot spills promptly.

Whichever you choose, keep the recliner off wet floors after mopping, since recliner mechanisms are usually made of metal.

One recliner, a set or a home theatre

  • One recliner: the Havenstone Plush Recliner at ₹28,000 gives one person a seat of their own for long evenings, and the Nordica Curved Recliner at ₹38,000 does the same in a calm beige that suits most living rooms, without looking bulky.
  • A family set: the Grandview Recliner Set at ₹70,000 seats five, with both armchairs reclining.
  • A home theatre: the Crimson Premiere Theatre Seat at ₹22,000 has cup holders built into the armrests, and its leatherette wipes clean after film nights. If you need several seats, please share the number on WhatsApp, and our team will confirm availability.

If you are still choosing the main sofa, our guide to sofa prices by budget shows how a recliner set compares with other sets.

Delivery and placement

Recliners are bulky, especially sets, so measure the main door, the lift and any staircase turns before the delivery day. We deliver across Belagavi city with free fitting at home, and to nearby towns including Khanapur, Bailhongal, Kittur and Sankeshwar. Decide the spot in advance and check that it has clear space behind and in front.

If you are replacing an old sofa or chair, you can exchange your old furniture against the new piece; terms and conditions apply.

Key takeaways

  • Choose the recliner for the person who will use it most, and try it with them
  • Measure the recliner fully reclined, and leave a walkway in front of the footrest
  • A side control suits those who prefer not to push back; a lean-back recliner has a cleaner outline
  • Leatherette wipes clean and copes with monsoon humidity; fabric needs vacuuming and distance from damp walls
  • Our recliners range from ₹22,000 for a theatre seat to ₹70,000 for a five-seat set

A recliner is worth trying in person, because comfort depends on your height and the way you sit. You are welcome to test the recline at our showroom on Civil Hospital Road, open every day from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm.
