Choosing an Office Chair for Long Hours at a Desk
October 2026 · 5 min read · By the team at Price Furniture, Belagavi
If you work from home, prepare for exams or run an office in Belagavi, your chair may carry you through eight or more hours a day. A dining chair or a plastic chair is fine for an hour; across a working day, the difference shows in your back, your neck and your concentration.
This guide sets out what to check, using the five office chairs listed on our website, priced from ₹11,900 to ₹26,000.
In this guide
Set the chair to your body and your desk
- Seat height: sit with your feet flat on the floor and your knees roughly level with your hips. All five of our office chairs have a height lever under the seat.
- Desk height: with your shoulders relaxed, your elbows should sit at about the height of the desk. If the chair has to go higher to reach the desk, add a footrest.
- Seat depth: leave a gap of two or three fingers between the front edge of the seat and the back of your knees.
- Back support: the backrest should follow the curve of your lower back, and a lumbar pad helps if your lower back tires.
- Armrests: they should let you sit close to the desk without lifting your shoulders.
Mesh or leatherette in Belagavi's weather
Mesh lets air through the back, which matters in a room cooled only by a fan, especially in April and May. It also does not hold damp during the monsoon. The Apex Ergonomic Office Chair at ₹11,900 has a grey mesh back with a padded fabric seat.
Leatherette looks more formal in a cabin and wipes clean with a damp cloth, but it can feel warm through a summer afternoon. Lighter colours show marks sooner: the cream Summit High-Back Office Chair at ₹19,000 needs a wipe every week or so, while brown and black hide everyday wear.

| Chair | Upholstery | Back and arms | Price |

Which chair suits which desk
- A work-from-home desk or a student's room: the Apex, for its breathable back and lumbar support
- A home study where a corporate look feels out of place: the Sterling Executive Chair at ₹13,900, with its softer, rounded shape
- A bright, modern office: the Summit, where a black chair would look heavy
- A cabin with a large desk: the Chairman's High-Back Executive Chair at ₹24,000, for long hours with the head supported
- A cabin with wooden furniture: the Monarch High-Back Executive Chair at ₹26,000, whose brown looks less stark than black
In a flat or an independent house
In a compact flat, the desk often shares a bedroom, so the chair should tuck under the desk when it is not in use. Compare the height of the chair's arms, at your seat height, with the underside of the desk.
In an independent house with a separate study, there is usually room for a high-back chair and space to roll back from the desk. Ground-floor studies can turn damp in the monsoon, so keep leatherette chairs a little away from outer walls.
Floors, castors and the monsoon
All five chairs roll on five-star bases with castors. On vitrified tiles, marble or granite they roll freely, so a chair mat helps keep the chair in place and protects the floor. On a thick rug, castors drag, and a flat mat works better.
During the monsoon:
- Keep the chair away from windows that let in rain
- Wipe chrome bases and arms dry, so that water spots do not form
- If a mesh back or fabric seat gets damp, dry it with a fan before using the chair again
Habits matter as much as the chair
A good chair supports good posture, but it does not replace movement. Place the top of the screen at about eye level and an arm's length away, keep the keyboard close enough that your elbows stay by your sides, and stand up and walk for a few minutes every half hour or so.
